Frequently Asked Questions
Copper heats more evenly than any other metal in your kitchen. It conducts heat about 20 times better than stainless steel, about 7 times better than cast iron, and nearly twice as well as aluminum. Unlike coated nonstick, P•TAL copper is lined with pure tin, which is naturally slick with no synthetic coatings. You get quick, even heat and real control, and you cook with less heat and less oil.
It does. Copper heats fast and evenly, so food cooks gently at lower heat and in less time, which helps preserve its natural goodness. Studies suggest food cooked in copper can retain up to 6 times more nutrients.
Yes. Every P•TAL copper pan is lined with pure tin, so your food rests on tin while the copper beneath does the heating. Pure tin is naturally nonstick and non-reactive, and cooks have trusted it for centuries. Each piece comes with a purity-test magnet: pure copper isn’t magnetic, so you can see for yourself.
Start with the piece you’ll reach for every day. For most kitchens, that’s our 10" Copper Fry Pan, made for eggs, sautés and a beautiful sear. Or begin with a simple morning ritual: our Copper Water Bottle, filled at night and sipped at sunrise.
P•TAL copper works on gas, electric coil, ceramic and glass-top stoves. For induction, use an induction interface disc.
Cooking with heat: Copper carries heat so well that it does most of the work for you. That’s why low to medium heat is all you need, and medium on copper cooks like high heat on other pans. Always add a little oil, butter or food before you turn on the flame. Pure tin is happiest below 450°F, so never heat your pan empty or leave it on high. Keep the flame within the base of the pan, because copper spreads the heat up the sides on its own. Let the pan cool down before you wash it, since sudden temperature changes can stress the metal.
Care: Hand wash with warm water and a mild soap, then dry right away. Over time copper develops a warm patina, which is natural and doesn’t change how your pan cooks. To bring back a bright shine, use the complimentary cleaning solution that comes with your cookware, or polish with half a lemon and a little salt.
Every P•TAL piece is made by hand to be with you for a lifetime, and we’ll be with you too. If anything goes wrong because of how it was made, whether it’s a joint, a rivet or a handle, we’ll make it right. A deepening patina and gentle wear of the tin lining are part of your copper’s story, so the warranty doesn’t cover them. It also doesn’t cover damage from heating an empty pan. If something doesn’t feel right, just email us your order number and a photo. We’re always happy to help, whether it’s a warranty claim or a simple care question.
